Institute for Applied System Analysis at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
The Educational and Scientific Complex "Institute for Applied System Analysis" of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (ESC IASA), 25408067, was established in 1997 by the decision of the Government of Ukraine with the participation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, with the aim of creating a model in Ukraine for integrating academic science and university education following the example of leading countries worldwide. Among the founders were world-renowned scientists and academicians V.S. Mykhalevych, I.V. Serhienko, O.I. Kukhtenko, B.M. Pshenychnyi, Y.L. Daletskyi, and M.Z. Zgurovsky. To implement this idea, the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the NAS of Ukraine transferred two of its leading departments to the newly established structure — the Optimization Theory Department under the supervision of Academician B.M. Pshenychnyi, and the Control Theory Department under Professor V.I. Ivanenko. From the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", the Department of Mathematical Methods of System Analysis joined the ESC IASA. This school laid the foundation for the development of system analysis as a distinct scientific and educational field in Ukraine, established the first state standards for training specialists in this area, initiated the opening of the corresponding specialty at Igor Sikorsky KPI, and became a source for the creation of dozens of departments and faculties of system analysis in other universities across Ukraine. Its influence has been significant not only in the academic community but also in public administration, the IT sector, and security and defense spheres. Graduates of the school continue to hold key positions in national and international organizations. The Institute comprises a highly qualified team, including Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Prof. M.Z. Zgurovsky; two Corresponding Members of the NAS of Ukraine, Prof. P.O. Kasyanov, and Prof. N.D. Pankratova. The Institute conducts top-level scientific research and educational activities, including undergraduate and pre-university training programs. During 2021–2025, ESC IASA achieved significant scientific results within the framework of international cooperation. The Institute has notable accomplishments in training scientific personnel. Over the years, leading scientists of ESC IASA have prepared more than 25 doctors of physical-mathematical and technical sciences, as well as over 100 PhDs. In this regard, a postgraduate program is planned at the Institute for the targeted training of particularly talented youth. ESC IASA maintains and strengthens its role as a scientific and educational center of Ukraine, capable of generating breakthrough results and training elite scientific personnel in areas critically important for the state. By order of the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute has been classified as a critically important enterprise of Ukraine.
